Things We Did

As you can see, we spent a lot of our time exlporing the land and meeting the people and animals who live in Kanya & Tanzania. But we still found time for some other great activities.

Both Blondes we invited to join these gorgeous Maasai warriors for a dance. Too Cool! African dancing in AFRICA!!! What a thrill! The Blondes loved the Maasai and the feeling seemed mutual. The Blondes felt incredibly honoured when they were bestowed with Maasai names. Barbara is now Naponu; Kate is Nashilu.

...and here's Nashilu (Kate) busy at her fave passtime: shopping!
There were lots of touristy stores on the main roads,
but the Blondes supported local artisans by buying direct whenever we could. These Samburu men were picking up some extra money by escorting camel rides at the lodge, and by selling jewelry made by their wives (yes, "wives" plural... it's a polygamous patriarchy).
Here's Naponu (Miss Barbara) sitting out in the middle of the Ngorogoro Crater. The crater itself is filled with holy vibes (really!) and Miss Barbara took fifteen minutes to ground herself in this holy ground. If you look wayyyyy off into the distance in front of her, you'll see a Thompson's gazelle who stopped to see what Miss Barbara was all about.
Now, what do you suppose these kids are watching? A lion? A rhino? An elephant? No! They're watching Miss Barbara doing her sitting meditation in the middle of the Ngorogoro Crater (see above).
We'd stopped our Land Rover so Barbara could get out, but all the other Land Rovers thought we were stopped to look at some rare, exotic, and gorgeous creature.
Hmmmmm.
Come to think of it, that's exactly what we were looking at!
And at the end of each long, mindblowing day, there was always the most amazing sunset to watch...
